Programs - Support Vulnerable Children

Empowering Women and Mothers

According to an study conducted by INEC (Instituto Nacional de Estadísticas y Censos) of Ecuador, 6 out of 10 women in the country have experienced some form of violence, 1 in 4 have encountered sexual violence, and a staggering 9 out of 10 divorced women report experiencing violence. Furthermore, women in rural areas work an average of 23 hours more per week than men, and in 2014, women’s unpaid labor accounted for 15% of the nation’s GDP.

These alarming statistics underscore serious mental health challenges, including increased violence, communication breakdowns, and a lack of empathy and affection within homes. Such issues profoundly affect the emotional development of both mothers and their children.

Our project aims to provide emotional support to mothers facing such challenges. Through workshops focused on emotional sustainability and personal growth, we seek to nurture their emotional well-being. Many of these mothers lack formal educational opportunities, so UBECI is committed to recognizing their achievements in both education and personal development.

By empowering mothers with the tools for effective communication, we aim to ensure they can be strong guides and role models for their children, fostering a healthier and more supportive home environment. Together, we can help break the cycle of violence and promote emotional resilience in families across Ecuador.
